The Heart of a Child and The Call of Parenting

So I’m in line buying breakfast for myself and the kids and my daughter just randomly says, “Don’t worry Mommy, one day, I’ll be able to pay for you!” Of course my heart is beginning to melt as I think, what a sweet child. THEN IT HIT ME … it’s my responsibility as a parent to ensure that she is adequately prepared to survive on her own, has a firm foundation when it’s time for her to make tough decisions that will either support or hinder her success, that she is protected from what she doesn’t know or can not see but also made aware that these dangers exist, that she is properly loved, cared for and redirected, and finally that she has been exposed to and given every opportunity so that she eventually does find herself in a position where she is able to “pay for me.”

Right now, it is my job to ensure that her needs are met but what a great responsibility we have as parents to prepare our kids for life and at least direct them to a path that will push them towards one day becoming independent and self sufficient. A very powerful woman once told me, “you raise and train your children to live without you” As a young mother I didn’t understand what she meant and honestly rejected the idea. But today, it makes sense. As parents this is our “one job” and the sacrifice demanded to make this happen is absolutely worth the investment.

The truly amazing opportunity that proper parenting presents, however, is to sacrifice and make the investment one time and then receive the “return” on our investment for many generations to come! Best life insurance policy I’ve ever heard of! It’s not easy and it’s WORK, but God knew what he was doing when he created parents!

So hang in there Momma, right now it’s not about you. Let my baby girls’ heart remind you that your sacrifice is not in vain and one day soon, you will reap generations of blessings as a result of your seed sown.

I’m so proud of our little family! Our prayer is that as we are blessed, we may be a blessing to others! We’re doing our best to raise up our next generation!

I dedicate this post to my amazing parents! Your sacrifices were not in vain! You’ve molded and shaped many generations! 💕
