It’s National Teddy Bear Day!
Did you know that the concept of our favorite cuddly friend was born from the actions of President Theodore Roosevelt? He refused to shoot a bear cub while hunting in 1902 and this news went viral. Inspired by this event, a reporter published a cartoon including a caricature of the cute cub.
This cartoon drawn by Clifford Berryman inspired the creation of the Teddy Bear. Published in 1902 in the Washington Post.
This cartoon inspired a local toy store owner to create a new toy. Upon completion, he wrote President Roosevelt requesting permission to name his new toy a ”Teddy Bear.”
In a world full of followers, President Roosevelt took a stand. His actions resulted in the creation of a plush icon that provides comfort & security, inspires creativity and for some, genuine, authentic kindness and friendship.

Today we celebrate the Teddy Bear. I remember my favorite Teddy, on some of my saddest days as a child and even in college, he was a source of comfort. I also remember my husband buying me huge bears that to me demonstrated his kindness, big heart, and love. My collection of teddy bears, are a representation of comfort and love.
Now my daughter has a bed full of bears, her teddy bears are designed and created by her and include custom clothes and even wear shoes. Each one has its own personality!
Honor your favorite teddy today. Tell us about your beloved fuzzy friend and what it meant/means for you. Then go make plans to do whatever it is that you’re called and purposed to do. I’m crazy enough to believe that the next big idea rests inside of you! It’s going to change the world and bring endless comfort, joy, & fulfillment to many.
